Rangers manager Philippe Clement was speaking this weekend on news that former Ibrox winger Ryan Kent is a free agent, and he confirmed his interest in the ex-Liverpool man, from his days at Brugge when he tried to sign the boy.

Speaking pre-Killie, Clement (sort of) refused to be drawn on interest today, as things stand with Kent’s availability, and stated his views on rumours:

“I said already in that one year, already a lot of times I don’t go into rumours. Because then it never stops, and it’s already busy with all the press conferences with you guys. So, no, I’m not going to go into rumours.”

But then confirmed his own interest in signing Kent for Brugge before the attacker made the switch to Ibrox:

“Of course, I know the player, and I’ve known him a long time, because the moment he went to Rangers, I was in talks with him to get him to Brugge. But there was a better deal, I think, in Rangers, in that way, so he chose for that. So, I’ve known him a long time, but I’m not going into rumours about bringing players on.”

So, Clement confirming he is interested in every single way about Ryan Kent without overtly saying he wants to do a deal to sign the lad.

It’s a divisive topic – an Ibrox Noise poll confirmed 56% of fans who were asked favoured his return, with 44% not favouring it, so it’s far from a strong majority.

And if he did re-sign, he would have a lot of fans to win over. And in all fairness, he probably wouldn’t have a lot of trouble doing that.

As it is, Rangers could use him, and he could use familiar surroundings to get himself going again.
