Rangers are ‘working very hard to get a deal over the line’ which will see Antonio Colak head to Ibrox, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

John Souttar will be the only fresh face in the Gers’ squad heading into the new campaign, as things stand, but boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking to add Colak to his ranks.

What’s the latest news involving Colak?

According to Sky Sports, Rangers have agreed a fee of close to £1.8million with PAOK for Colak, but the Scottish giants are having to play the waiting game.

The report suggests the Greek club have yet to decide whether they are willing to let the three-cap Croatia international move onto pastures new.

PAOK boss Razvan Lucescu has revealed he will not give Rangers the green light to complete Colak’s capture until he has successfully recruited a replacement.

Van Bronckhorst, who was appointed as the Glasgow giants’ chief last November, has been looking to recruit a new frontman during the transfer window.

However, Rangers are not the only club tracking Colak as Copenhagen, Panathinaikos, Real Mallorca and former club Malmo are understood to be hoping to win the race for his signature.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Colak?

O’Rourke understands Rangers are busy behind the scenes looking to seal the deal for Colak.

The journalist believes the frontman has already shown that he is capable of being a threat in the final third of the pitch and, as a result, could be a huge success at Ibrox.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “It looks like he’s got a decent goalscoring record in Greece and he is a Croatia international as well.

“Obviously, it’s a deal Rangers are working very hard to get over the line. They are just trying to conclude a deal with the Greek side.”

Why is Colak in-demand this summer?

Colak has scored 96 goals over the course of his senior club career, which emphasises that he is capable of delivering the goods in the attacking third.

Rangers missed out on the Scottish Premiership title last season, with them finishing four points adrift of arch-rivals Celtic.

But Colak has previously won silverware in Sweden and Croatia, so he is used to getting involved in title challenges.

The 28-year-old found the back of the net eight times and registered a further two assists last season, so he could prove to be a shrewd signing by van Bronckhorst.
