The Canaries have suffered a setback in their quest to get a deal for the Gers' player over the line.
Norwich City have submitted a loan offer for Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo and are unlikely to return with another bid.
According to Mike McGrath though, that bid by the Canaries has been knocked back by the Gers, who could potentially see Matondo leave Glasgow before the end of the summer transfer window.
The player has been linked with a move to a number of EFL sides during the summer, with Leeds United one side that were previously believed to be interested in him.
Having lost Jaidon Anthony and Crysencio Summerville since the end of last term, the Whites were in desperate need of more wing additions and having missed out on some of their targets, they could have brought in Matondo.
However, they have opted to recruit Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon instead, with the former joining for a hefty fee and the latter securing a loan move to Elland Road.
With these two players coming in, it now seems unlikely that the Whites will move for another wide player before the window closes, unless Solomon operates in a more central position.
Blackburn Rovers have also been linked with a move for the player, but they are in the process of finalising a deal for Todd Cantwell and that could rule out a move for Matondo.
According to McGrath, Norwich have had a loan bid for Matondo rejected.
Pink Un's Connor Southwell has since claimed that the Canaries are unlikely to return with a further bid.
The player has played in England before and could have made the move south of the border again, but it's looking less and less likely that he will make the move away from Ibrox.
With less than 48 hours to go, the winger will need to secure a move fairly quickly if he wants to beat the deadline, having put himself in the shop window following his performances and contributions last term.
Having lost Jonathan Rowe this summer, they need to find a replacement for him.
The England youth international was one of the first names on the teamsheet last term and although Abu Kamara could replace him, the latter isn't guaranteed to stay put either.
Following an excellent campaign at Portsmouth last term, scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists in all competitions for the south coast side, he could have been a real asset at Carrow Road.
But he looks intent on leaving Norfolk before the window closes and if he's sold, that will leave the Canaries with even less depth out wide.
With the likes of Adam Idah and Gabriel Sara leaving, the Canaries need enough quality in the final third to give themselves the best chance of being successful again during the 2024/25 season.
Matondo, who did fairly well for the Scottish Premiership side last term, could end up being a good addition.
Considering the amount of money that the club have raised recently, they could potentially look to do a permanent deal, but it remains to be seen whether they are willing to fork out the amount of money needed to sign the player.
