Despite a dominant first half, Rangers needed to dig deep to break down a formidable Dundee United.

The visitors maintained 71% possession of the ball in the opening 45 minutes but only put two of their five attempts on target.

Borna Barišić hit the crossbar in the opening moments, Antonio Čolak saw a half-volley saved and then Ryan Kent had an attempt go over the bar.

Coming out into the second half, Michael Beale’s team talk certainly woke the visitors up, and the breakthrough finally arrived.

Fashion Sakala’s left-footed strike was followed by an instinctual finish from Malik Tillman within three minutes of each other to put Rangers up by two just before the hour mark.

The hosts struggled to threaten with any of their efforts truly and only put one attempt on target. Steven Fletcher was lively but couldn’t convert his chances.

In the end, the two quick-fire goals were enough to see Beale’s side walk away with all three points, and Rangers sit nine points behind leaders Celtic.
