Rangers manager Philippe Clement is on the brink of being sacked by the Ibrox club following the 2-0 loss to St Mirren on Saturday, according to the Scottish Sun.
The Belgian is on the verge of being axed after the Bears suffered their fifth Scottish Premiership game of 2024-25 and got dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Championship club Queen’s Park.
Rangers are now set to part with Clement and name a caretaker boss for this midweek’s league clash with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
The Light Blues are 13 points behind Premiership leaders Celtic after 27 games and are set to end the campaign without a domestic trophy having lost the Scottish League Cup final to the Hoops.
Clement succeeded Michael Beale in October 2023, winning the Scottish League Cup so far, but he has come close to being sacked following an underwhelming campaign in 2024-25.
The Rangers’ hierarchy refused to sack him following the Scottish Cup exit earlier this month as they were engaged in take-over discussions with potential US investors and the club also had a crucial Europa League game ahead.
The fans have called for his head since the dismal loss to Queen’s Park, and Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart watched on at Ibrox yesterday as they slipped further behind Celtic in the title race.
Several high-ranking board members reportedly wanted Clement fired after the Scottish Premiership defeat to St Mirren on Boxing Day, but there was no money available to fund his seven-figure pay-off and axe him, and the Light Blues reluctantly allowed the 50-year-old to continue.
The loss on Saturday appears to have proven to be the final straw, and Rangers will now hope to get their next managerial appointment right as they are now set to go four seasons without the title.
