While the Africa Cup of Nations are taking place, many Rangers fans have been similar to that of a proud parent watching our number 17 strut his stuff for the world to see. With undeniable bags of talent, Joe Aribo has been crucial to Rangers’ season so far, specifically to the tenure of Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, as the Nigerian consistently was turning in fantastic displays before the winter break.

Despite the happiness Rangers fans have had for Aribo getting the opportunity to show his talent on such a big stage, many would have to admit some slight disappointment that such a crucial player for us this season would be missing from action, especially with an away day to Celtic Park on the horizon.

There was always a chance that Aribo could be potentially home for the clash. However, with Nigeria being one of the more talented teams in the competition, many expected the ‘Super Eagles’ to go on a run in the tournament which would leave Rangers without their current star man for the Old Firm. This was until last night, when Nigeria faced off against Tunisia in the round of 16. Tunisia pulled off a colossal result, and sent Nigeria home with a 1-0 defeat.

With this, Joe Aribo will be returning to Rangers, and thankfully with no injuries to burden his return to club action. With Rangers having been restricted in terms of options of who to play, Aribo being back in amongst the squad couldn’t come at a better time for GVB.

No Rangers fans wanted Nigeria to be put out of the competition for any reason of malice towards the nation, we simply wanted to see our current marquee man back in the heart of the Rangers midfield. We have him now, and it is of upmost importance that we take advantage of his talents amongst many others in the squad, and push onto a successful remainder of the season.
