Rangers legend fired amid spurious accusations

This nonsense involving Rangers legend Brian Laudrup being fired by TV2 for having the temerity to promote Dubai really is something extraordinary, with the Danish TV company deciding to terminate his deal on grounds of politics.

See, for those of you who don’t know, Denmark and its state politics and TV networks are 100% anti-the world cup, anti-Qatar (despite Denmark being in it) and anyone who sides with Qatar is not welcome.

Now, we do agree this world cup is a sham, it’s a corrupt disgrace, and even when awarding the country the world cup and shortly after revealing it was corrupt and they paid money for the award, FIFA STILL went ahead with the tournament.

Not long after, the reports of multiple deaths during stadium construction arose – ah, there’s a thousand things we won’t cover here.

What we will say is we agree with TV2 and Denmark for their anti-Qatar stance.

What we are struggling to fathom is why Ibrox icon Laudrup’s promotional interests in plugging a completely unrelated country (Dubai is part of the UAE) somehow mean he’s promoting the world cup.

He said it himself – if they want to fire him for being the face of Dubai, so be it.

But unless we’ve missed the memo, his promotion of the Middle Eastern hot spot has absolutely nothing to do with Qatar or the world cup.

Sure, there may be shared money in there – the lavish middle east is 99% loans from both Saudi cash and western finance, not to mention Qatari and UAE funds, but directly speaking, encouraging people to visit Dubai bears no relation to the world cup at all.

Curious.
