The playoff rounds for the Europa League concluded on Thursday night as places in the last-16 were earned.
Here’s what went down.
Scorers: Insigne PEN 23′, Politano 87′.; Alba 8′, De Jong 13′, Piqué 45′, Aubameyang 58′.
Barcelona steamrolled Napoli to move into the next round after a stunning performance in Italy.
They stormed into the lead in the eighth minute after Adama Traoré carried the ball up the pitch from a Napoli corner before playing in Jordi Alba to fire low past Alex Meret.
Frenkie de Jong curled a sublime effort in from 25 yards to give his side a two-goal cushion but Lorenzo Insigne halved that from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen had been fouled.
Gerard Piqué extended Barça’s two-goal advantage right on half-time with a low shot which kissed the far post on the way in before the tie was put to bed 13 minutes into the second half.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang curled home from 12 yards out to add his fourth goal in two appearances after being set up via more good work from Traoré.
Mauro Politano caught Barcelona trying to play out from the back to drill home a consolation goal three minutes from time but Xavi’s side held on to book their place in the last-16.
Scorers: Tavernier PEN 23′, 57′; Bellingham 31′, Malen 42′.
Rangers completed a stunning victory over Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox, progressing through 6-4 on aggregate.
James Tavernier scored a brace on the night, the first coming from the penalty spot after Julian Brandt had fouled Borna Barišić in the box.
Dortmund pulled themselves back into it through Jude Bellingham after he took advantage of some poor defending from the hosts before slotting past Allan McGregor at the near post.
Donyell Malen then poked home from nine yards out three minutes before the break to seemingly set up a potential tricky second half as the comeback looked on.
But the Scottish champions moved closer to the dream result with Tavernier bagged his second with a right-footed effort at the back post in the 57th minute after being found by Calvin Bassey.
Marco Rose’s side failed to test McGregor in the second half and in the end stumbled out of a second European competition in two months as Rangers pulled off a remarkable win.
Scorers: Zubimendi 65′; Orbán 39′, Silva 59′, Forsberg PEN 89′.
RB Leipzig are through to the last-16 after seeing off a late fightback from Real Sociedad to progress.
The visitors were gifted the opportunity to take the lead when Christopher Nkunku was taken down by Sociedad goalkeeper Mat Ryan in the area.
André Silva stepped up to take the spot-kick but saw his effort saved before Willi Orbán stormed on to the rebound to slot home.
Silva wasn’t to be denied midway through the second half as he extended Leipzig’s advantage with a ferocious right-footed effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Martín Zubimendi poked home from six yards out after a flick on from Mikel Oyarzabal to fire the hosts back into the game in the 65th minute but they couldn’t find that elusive equalising goal before Emil Forsberg came off the bench to score Leipzig’s second penalty of the game.
Scorers: Immobile 19′, Cataldi 90+5.; Taremi PEN 31′, Uribe 68′.
Lazio had levelled the tie on aggregate courtesy of Ciro Immobile’s powerful strike after he drove past Pepe into the area and blasted the ball past Diogo Costa at the near post.
But the visitors equalised on the night and sneaked back ahead on aggregate courtesy of Taremi’s well-taken penalty after the Porto striker had been fouled in the area.
Taremi then chipped the ball over the top of the Lazio defence into the path of the on-rushing Mateus Uribe who slotted home.
Danilo Cataldi finished off a rebounded effort off the post to spark life into Lazio’s comeback in stoppage time but Sérgio Conceição’s side held on.
