Rangers retained their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night as they held Aberdeen to a 2-2 draw at Ibrox.

The Gers found themselves 2-0 down early on as they struggled to get to grips with the Dons’ high press and left themselves with a mountain to climb.

Alfredo Morelos pulled one back before half-time as he nodded home from close range after a free-kick from James Tavernier. The Teddy Bears full-back then turned from provider to scorer as he converted a penalty late on to complete the comeback and secure a point.

A number of players struggled on a difficult night for Rangers, with one of them being central midfielder John Lundstram as he put in a disappointing display in the middle of the park.

The summer signing from Sheffield United was partly to blame for the opening goal for Aberdeen. He was dispossessed under pressure inside the penalty area, with Christian Ramirez scoring from the end of the ensuing move.

On that note, defensively he was poor throughout.

Per SofaScore, he lost 80% (4/5) of his individual duels on the pitch and failed to complete a single successful defensive action.

The lightweight also made zero tackles, interceptions, blocks or clearances as he was unable to impose himself on the game from a physical standpoint.

Offensively, he did not far much better.

Per SofaScore, he missed one ‘big chance’ and failed to provide a single key pass despite having 66 touches and completing 95% of his attempted passes.

This suggests that he was too safe with his pass selections and did not attempt to play the killer balls that were required to open up the Aberdeen defence, whilst he also missed his opportunity to score when presented with the ball in front of goal.

Who scored a hat-trick on their debut?

Carl Skomager Hansen Egil Ostenstad Peter Lovenkrands Morten Wieghorst

It’s no wonder he was hooked after just 61 minutes.

Football FanCast published an article ahead of the game urging Gerrard to drop Lundstram in favour of Glen Kamara. The Finland international did start, but he was given his place ahead of Steven Davis as the manager put his faith in the ex-Blades beast.

Therefore, Lundstram let his head coach down badly as he was unable to repay the faith shown in him after he was also caught out for a goal against St Mirren on Sunday.
