He revealed that Bacuna is an ‘exciting’ player and senses he is ready to be unleashed.

“We’ve only given him the time to show us moments, but there’s a start on the horizon for him.

“Hopefully, it’ll be in the next couple of games, and if not, we’ll get him a start pretty soon because he’s an exciting player, he can combine, he can fight, he can hustle, and he’ll make us better.”

Unleash him

Rangers travel away to play Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday night and it could be a great opportunity for Gerrard to unleash the midfielder. He should be handed his maiden Gers start against the Czech side, as it would allow him to show exactly what he is capable of over 90 minutes.

The Gers lost their opening group stage match to Lyon, 2-0 at Ibrox and the midfield was a cause for concern. Steven Davis recorded a SofaScore rating of 6.5 and Kamara fared a little better at 6.6, suggesting that it would not harm Gerrard to switch the balance in the middle of the park to incorporate Bacuna into the team.

Who scored a hat-trick on their debut?

Carl Skomager Hansen

Egil Ostenstad

Peter Lovenkrands

Morten Wieghorst

Bacuna, as Gerrard said, is an exciting player and that means that he could have the ability to get fans excited and off their seats in games. Last season, the Curacao international produced five goals and four assists from midfield for Huddersfield in the Championship, averaging 1.8 key passes and attempted dribbles combined per game.

This shows that he has the quality to dribble with the ball whilst also creating chances for his teammates and carrying a goal threat himself. Therefore, fans could enjoy watching him play and should be enthralled at the prospect of him driving towards the opposition goal to score or create an opportunity.

Gerrard must now hand the £4.5m-rated gem a start as soon as possible, preferably against Sparta this week, so that the supporters are able to witness Bacuna in full flow. If he puts in a strong performance and is able to showcase his quality then it could lead to him earning a regular spot in the starting XI this season.
