Rangers have been linked with both Lewis Ferguson and Ryan Gauld in recent weeks but who would be the better addition to Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox this summer?

The £2.7m-rated midfielder is contracted at Pittodrie until 2024 but looks set to depart Stephen Glass’ side this summer after it was revealed that he had handed in a transfer request, although that was subsequently rejected by Aberdeen.

Ryan Gauld

According to Vital Rangers, Ryan Gauld would be interested in joining Rangers this season and would be available on a free transfer, as his contract with Portuguese club SC Farense is set to expire this summer.

The former Dundee United wonderkid has rebuilt his career in Portugal in recent seasons with Farense and has dazzled this season, contributing nine goals and seven assists in 33 Liga NOS appearances, which has helped him to earn a very impressive 7.19 rating from WhoScored.

The 25-year-old, who has been dubbed a “top player“, is also attracting interest from the Premier League and the Championship, so Ross Wilson and Gerrard will have to work quickly if they are to bring him to Ibrox this summer.

Who would be the better singing?

Although Ferguson is a very attractive long-term option due to his impressive performances with Aberdeen aged just 21, Gauld established himself with Dundee United in the top flight as a teenager and earned a move to Sporting Lisbon for his performances.

Whilst it didn’t work out for him there, his fantastic performances this season certainly suggest that he would be a stellar addition to Gerrard’s side next term; and given that he will be available on a free, he looks to be a better option for Rangers this summer, so Wilson should definitely look to bring him in.
