Óscar Manuel Cortés Cortés was born on 3rd December 2003 in Tumaco, Colombia. He spent his youth career at Millonarios Fútbol Club, based in Bogotá, and made his senior debut for the club in 2022.
Cortés scored seven [7] goals in 29 appearances for Millonarios across two [2] seasons. He was called up for the Colombia U20s, impressing for them at the 2023 South American U-20 Championship.
In July 2023, Cortés was signed by the French Ligue 1 side RC Lens, having previously been strongly linked with the Italian Serie A club Torino. However, his time in Lens did not go exactly according to plan. He made just four senior appearances for the club before joining Rangers FC on loan in February 2024.
On 3rd June, Rangers announced Cortés had signed a one-year loan with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2025, at which point he will sign a four-year contract.
“I am delighted to be able to stay at Rangers,” said Cortés, upon signing his new deal. “It was an honour and privilege for me to join the club in January and I was enjoying my football under the manager and playing alongside my team-mates. Sadly, the injury ended my season early, but I have been working hard and I am excited to help the team and play in front of the wonderful fans again soon.”
Cortés made seven appearances for the Light Blues before picking up an injury which ended his season but he has continued his rehab in Glasgow.
“He was a big asset to the squad when he came to the club and he showed the qualities that attracted him to us.
“Oscar suffered a setback, but he has worked tirelessly during his recovery and I am sure all of the fans are looking forward to seeing him again next season.”
Nils Koppen, Director of Recruitment, added: “Oscar’s Rangers career started brightly and he showed the technical ability, pace and goal threat he carries.
“He was unfortunate to miss the final few months of the campaign, but we believe he can be an important player for the team going forward.
“He has really loved being at the club and we feel he will get even better when he is fully fit again working under the manager and his coaching staff.”
Philippe Clement and Gers fans will hope Cortés is back to full fitness in time for next season and can rediscover his best form for their title challenge.
