Rangers fans were certainly stirred yesterday after Ibrox Noise posted a thought-provoking photo of none other than José Mourinho, accompanied by a simple caption: “Like if you’d want him as manager” followed by the red, white, and blue emojis representing Rangers’ colours.
Naturally, the responses flooded in, and as expected, it sparked huge debate across the Rangers support. With 773 reactions, over 70 comments, and several shares, it’s clear that the fanbase remains captivated by the idea of a world-class managerial name like Mourinho being linked with the Ibrox hotseat.
Some fans absolutely loved the idea. Many were quick to point out his incredible track record — a Champions League winner with both Porto and Inter, league titles in England, Italy, and Spain, and one of the most decorated managers in world football. His personality, winning mentality, and larger-than-life presence were mentioned as exactly what Rangers might need to restore their position at the very top of Scottish football. After all, as several fans commented, “Mourinho is a winner”, and that’s what Rangers fans demand above all else.
However, not all were sold. There was a fair bit of realism mixed in among the excitement. Some fans highlighted the financial challenges of bringing in someone of Mourinho’s stature. His wage demands, his usual transfer budgets, and the infrastructure he typically requires were seen by some as being completely beyond Rangers’ current reach. A few even expressed concerns about whether Mourinho would truly understand Scottish football or be willing to adapt to the unique pressures of the Old Firm environment.
There was also a contingent who questioned whether Mourinho’s best days are behind him. Some noted his recent spells at Roma and Spurs as evidence that his once all-conquering tactical nous might be fading. “Is he still the Special One?” asked one commenter, while another suggested that Rangers would be better served by a younger, hungrier manager with fresh ideas.
Regardless of opinion, one thing was clear — the name Mourinho still gets fans talking. Whether it’s realistic or just a dream, the buzz generated shows how much ambition still lives within the Rangers support. Mourinho might never step foot in the Ibrox dugout, but the excitement of the possibility is exactly the sort of energy fans love to discuss.
Would you take him at Ibrox?
