Rangers face needing to buy a target they are keen on permanently if they want to sign him, as his club favour a permanent deal, rather than the loan the Gers are looking for, according to journalist Mark McAdam.
Following a takeover by the 49ers Enterprise and the subsequent appointment of Russell Martin as the manager of the club, Rangers are looking to flex their muscles in the transfer market to be able to mount a serious challenge to Celtic for silverware next season.
Rangers now have Lyall Cameron in through the door at Ibrox and will be looking for further additions in the coming weeks and months.
Now there appears to be a real focus on full-back, where James Tavernier has been manning the right-back slot regularly.
Tavernier has often been criticised for his performances and the Gers are looking at adding another right-back.
Rangers have identified Bournemouth’s Max Aarons as an option and are trying to convince his club to send him up north.
Aarons spent the second half of last season in La Liga with Valencia, featuring in five games for them.
Rangers have contacted Bournemouth for Aaron to take him on a season-long loan spell.
However, the Cherries do not see Aarons as a part of their long-term future and prefer a permanent sale.
That means Rangers may have to fork out a substantial sum if they are to convince Bournemouth to let Aarons move to Ibrox.
With funds likely to need to be spread around the team for reinforcements, there must be a question mark over whether Rangers could afford a permanent deal for Aarons this summer.
It is unclear just what level of fee the Cherries want for the defender however.
