Rangers target Nicolas Raskin may have opened the door open for a move to Michael Beale’s Ibrox side due to having a “contract wrangle” with current side Standard Liège, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The midfielder’s contract at the Belgian giants expires next summer.

Rangers transfer news – Nicolas Raskin

According to Voetbal Nieuws (via the Daily Record), Rangers have reignited their interest in Raskin, after having been unable to sign him this summer.

The article also goes on to say that the Glasgow giants are joined in their interest in the 21-year-old by Serie A outfit Spezia and Belgian side Club Brugge, but Eredivisie club Feyenoord have reportedly dropped their desire to sign the starlet.

The Daily Record reports that a move for the Belgium U21 international (via Transfermarkt) was on in the summer pending Glen Kamara’s move to Ligue 1 side Nice, but the latter move never materialised with the club having no need to sign the midfielder.

And O’Rourke believes that, with Raskin due to enter the final six months of his contract in January, it may pave the way for Rangers to make a move for the youngster.

What has O’Rourke said about Raskin and Rangers?

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s a good midfielder Raskin. I think he’s having a bit of a contract wrangle at the minute with Standard Liege, so that’s maybe opening the door for Rangers to steal in and lure him away from the club.”

Would Raskin be a good signing for Rangers?

Raskin, who had an asking price of £4.7m in the summer according to The 4th Official podcast, has already made a name for himself at Standard Liège and has become something of a regular for the Belgian giants having made 17 appearances this campaign scoring one goal and providing four assists, according to Transfermarkt.

An impressive average Sofascore rating of 7.01 for his performances in the Pro League suggests that he is capable of playing to a consistently solid standard in his native homeland, and maybe a move abroad is what he needs to make that step up in his career.

Rangers currently have three midfielders out of contract at the end of the season according to Transfermarkt, whilst it is yet to be seen whether Malik Tillman’s loan move from Bayern Munich will be extended into next season, suggesting that Beale may have an overhaul in the middle of the park on his hands come next summer.

Therefore, the acquisition of Raskin may hand the new head coach a boost in terms of his long-term summer recruitment, suggesting that this may be a deal that Rangers want to make a move on at the start of the January window.
