Following their devastating defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final in Seville on Wednesday night, they put Hearts to the sword 2-0.

Hearts had the first major opening of the game when Ellis Simms struck the post from close range on the stretch after good link up with Liam Boyce.

But Rangers finished the half strongest in a fast-paced encounter, with Joe Aribo and Amad Diallo both heading off target when they should have done better.

Rangers went close on three occasions in the second half as Leon Balogun missed the target by inches, Aribo brought a stunning save out of Craig Gordon with his feet and Scott Wright hit the bar in injury-time but failed to find the net as extra-time was required.

As the match entered extra-time, the persistent pressure from Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men continued and eventually broke Hearts.

Ryan Jack’s long range effort was no match for Gordon and virtually immediately after, Scott Wright all but secured Rangers’ first Scottish Cup since 2009 as his low drive doubled the lead three minutes later.
