Rangers defender Leon King is set to miss the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The club confirmed the 19-year-old will miss a ‘significant period of time’ due to the blow sustained in their pre-season camp in Germany.

“Rangers can confirm defender Leon King suffered a contact injury to his ankle at the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany on Monday which will rule him out for a significant period of time,” read a club statement.

“Leon is being looked after by the club’s medical staff and a further update will follow in due course. Everyone at the club wishes Leon a speedy recovery.”

The teenager made 23 appearances for Rangers last season and was heavily involved in the club’s Champions League campaign featuring in all six group games.

Michael Beale’s men kick off their Premiership season with a trip to Kilmarnock on 5 August.
