Philippe Clement's side fought for a 1-1 draw in the first leg, and were the better side in the first half of the second leg at Ibrox, though they could not find a way past Georgiy Bushchan as the sides headed into the interval goalless.

Summer signing Vaclav Cerny was sent on at the interval by the Rangers boss in a clear sign of intent, but just five minutes later disaster struck. Jefte, who had been booked in the first half, jumped for the ball with Oleksandr Karavayev and was adjudged to have fouled him, leading the referee to send off the Rangers man in what was widely viewed as a harsh decision.

Despite being down to 10 men, Rangers continued to hold firm with John Souttar in particular proving colossal at the heart of defence. However, just as the game looked set to be heading for extra-time the Bhoys were stunned by two quickfire goals.

First, substitute Oleksandr Pikhalyonok cut inside to arrow an effort past Jack Butland and hand the Ukrainians the lead, before just two minutes later fellow second half substitute Nazar Voloshyn was on hand to finish off a slick move and put Champions League football beyond Rangers.

Deep into stoppage time, Jack Butland almost gifted the Ukrainian side a third after a woeful clearance from the goalkeeper put Dynamo through on goal, only for the former England international to redeem himself with a fine save moments before boos greeted the final whistle.

The Scottish side will now drop into the Europa League, where they could meet Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce who suffered the same fate.
