Rangers could part company with Connor Goldson amid major development

Rangers could be ready to part company with Connor Goldson after it was confirmed he was not at Rangers’ training session on Friday and will not face Kilmarnock this weekend, following on from his high-profile dropping to face Hearts in the cup and St Mirren in Paisley.

There is also speculation he was not present at an official players’ event that the entire squad was expected to attend, albeit there are claims departing team mate John Lundstram also was not there.

But it’s his outright absence from training on Friday that has set tongues wagging, and while we’re perfectly sure manager Philippe Clement will play it down this afternoon as a ‘private matter’ or an ‘injury’, it’s clear that the developments of the past few weeks over Goldson spell the beginning of the end of his Rangers journey.

This will come as a huge relief to a great number of Rangers fans, the ones who didn’t swallow his cynically-timed interview anyway, and while obviously there’s no official confirmation that he’s moving on, nor will there be any time soon we’d think, his absence from training is a massive deal and it’s the first session he’s missed, aside injury, since joining.

The reality is that Goldson hasn’t, outside of injury at Rangers, missed two matches in a row for any reason since switching to Ibrox, and his doing so recently purely on the basis of ‘tactical’ and now being absent for Friday’s training speaks a massive chunk for his future at the club.

We honestly don’t think Goldson is viewed now as any part of the future of Rangers, and if he is to be sold, a huge problem Rangers have is finding a club in the Championship willing to take on his ludicrous £40,000pw wages.

No Premier League side will touch him, and Championship sides wouldn’t regard him as worth that kind of money.

But this is all down the road.

For now, he’s missed training and been dropped for the past two matches, and now three.

It’s all very interesting…
