Rangers close in on £1.5M striker as fourth addition

It appears Rangers are closing in the club’s fourth ‘new’ summer signing in the form of Morocco’s Hamza Igamane, a £1.5M capture from AS FAR Rabat in the country’s top flight the Botola.

We won’t lie and say we know much about Igamane, but that we can naturally present his numbers as his favoured striker position and let our readers make their own minds up.

He’s 21, he’s only 5ft 9, and his career numbers are 24 goals and assists in 56 appearances.

Yes, he’s made 58 senior career appearances for Rabat, and his numbers last campaign were 13 goals and assists in 23 outings, which is half decent, but then it’s Morocco, which is barely League Two in England level.

He does have 6 caps at U23 level, with 2 goals and an assist.

His career stats in the Botola?

13 goals in 45 appearances, 7 assists.

It’s a weird signing, we’ll say that, about as left-field as Jefte was.

A very young player, doing decent at a pretty low level, costing a very modest amount of cash – it’s the trade model doing its thing, trying to find quality untapped gems and then making a valuable asset out of them.

Some fans have praised the club for ‘trying something different’, trying a different market to find some hidden jewels that can thrive at Rangers.

Fair play in that sense, because we can’t now whine that the club is ignoring Scotland having added Connor Barron to the ranks.

The addition of Barron does make things feel a bit better, we admit that, but we’re not quite lavishly rolling the red carpet out to the likes of Igamane and Jefte just yet.

We welcome them to our club, but they are very left-field and it’s Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement’s heads on the chopping board if these lads don’t shine for Rangers.

We hope they do.
