Rangers are set to say goodbye to Connor Goldson this January after Ross Wilson’s confirmation that the wage structure will not be violated in order to accommodate any player.

Said to be wanting £42K a week and to be the club’s top earner, Goldson rejected a deal in the spring, having been in negotiation since October 2020, and the situation has rumbled on thereafter

Becoming a bit of an unpopular player in recent months, the vice-captain didn’t help his case with a dreadful ‘surrender’ comment after the Hibs match, and has effectively now become the most targeted scapegoat at the club when anything goes wrong.

It’s safe to say his immunity under the ex-manager hasn’t helped his situation much either, and with the DoF confirming there will be no new offer for Goldson, he is free to talk to other clubs in January and is likely to be sold if a modest offer arrives.

Otherwise he will be a free transfer come the summer.

Vitesse’s Danilho Doehki has been earmarked for months as the replacement, and with returning Filip Helander and potentially Niko Katic, Rangers fans would be very happy with those three plus the impressive Leon Balogun in there too.

Can’t help now feeling Goldson’s Scottish adventure is coming to an end.
