It’s safe to say now that Rangers are more than in a speck of bother. True, the results string of late hasn’t been quite Spurs, Utd or Man City level of crisis, but Rangers are only ever one draw away from chaos and with Boxing Day’s defeat to St Mirren the latest blow to the Famous, it’s pretty clear now that the situation at Ibrox is probably the worst it’s been for a very long time.
Long gone are the days Philippe Clement commanded the respect and support of fans far and wide, enjoying a 91% approval rating.
He’d be lucky now to have a 1% approval rating such is the gravity with which his stock has plummeted.
It’s not just him of course, the players (many of which he signed) are so feebly below Rangers level it’s not even funny, and it’s not much of a stretch to say this is amongst the worst-ever SPL Rangers sides and regimes that there have ever been.
Mercifully Aberdeen’s early season hysteria has collapsed and their incredible form is gone, seeing them now sinking in stature – even the modest Killie were able to pummel the Dons.
Which sees Rangers second – but not by a whole heck of a lot.
While results over the past 5 matches are not a million miles behind Celtic, the form is, and the points deficit increased to 12 points.
After the mockery Ibrox Noise suffered (‘is this a tim page’) from fans when we dared to point out that Clement’s record was now worse than Michael Beale many months ago, there are few supporters who now actually still believe the Belgian is a better manager than Beale was.
Both hopeless, both miles behind what Rangers need, and the squads they built further enforce that.
We have a new chairman, technical director (ish) and a new CEO, but they can’t make Rangers win just like that.
We don’t know what that’s going to take but Rangers are clearly very much in trouble these days.
