Danny Mills has insisted the opportunity to play in the Champions League is “absolutely huge” for Ryan Kent and his Rangers teammates.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender delivered his verdict after it was revealed Kent is set to stay at Ibrox for at least another season.

The club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract but he is in no rush to extend his current deal that expires in 2023.

Steven Gerrard is set to lead Rangers in the Champions League for the first time over a decade and Kent is sure to be a huge part of his team.

“That’s a huge incentive,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“The Champions League, as we know, is the pinnacle. The opportunity to play against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and some of those great players is not an opportunity he’s going to get at another club, realistically.

“He’s not going to walk into a top-four club in England.

“That carrot is absolutely huge for him to stay, and all those players. They’ll be prepared to go ‘You know what, one season, let’s have a go at it and see what happens. If it doesn’t work out we reassess our options.’”

Kent has missed just four games across all competitions for the Light Blues this term.

The Liverpool-born attacker has 12 goals and 14 assists under his belt this season.
