Rangers target Antonio Colak ‘could be the right trick’ for the club as Giovanni van Bronckhorst steps up his striker search, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Gers are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer, with Cedric Itten already departing the club and Alfredo Morelos’ future still hanging in the balance.

What is the latest news involving Rangers?

Morelos only has 12 months remaining on his current contract and a recent report from 90min revealed Rangers are prepared to sanction his sale if he refuses to commit his future to the club.

That has led to Van Bronckhorst scouring the market for possible signings and PAOK Salonika forward Colak is high up on his wish list.

Greek outlet Politic (via the Daily Record) claim that Rangers have seen an opening offer turned down as they did not meet PAOK’s €2 million (£1.7m) valuation.

And Greek transfer journalist Georgios Sideridis has provided an update on Colak’s situation, stating that the Ibrox outfit have raised their offer after having an initial €1.8m (£1.5m) bid rejected.

PAOK will reportedly settle for no less than €2.5m (£2.1m) for Colak, who has been capped three times by the Croatian national team.

What has O’Rourke said about Colak?

Colak bagged a brace against Rangers in a Champions League qualification match last season while on loan at Malmo, and O’Rourke believes he could be an astute acquisition for Van Bronckhorst.

He told GiveMeSport: “Obviously, they’re pushing forward looking for a striker because I think the injury to Alfredo Morelos maybe hurt Rangers last season in a number of games when they missed an out-and-out number nine.

“They’ve already sold Cedric Itten this summer, so Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to strengthen, and maybe Colak could be the right trick for Rangers, who obviously know all about him having played against him.”

Who else could Rangers sign?

Colak, who is valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, only hit eight goals in 36 appearances throughout 2021/22, potentially raising doubts over his ability.

However, he is far from the only marksman that Rangers have been credited with an interest in.

All Nigeria Soccer (via the Daily Record) have claimed that initial talks have been held with Randers FC over their striker Stephen Odey.

The Danish outfit have placed a £4m price tag on the 24-year-old, who has several other potential suitors, including Rangers’ Glasgow rivals Celtic.

Odey found the back of the net on 14 occasions in his 33 outings last term and could make an impact on Scottish football should he sign for either of the Old Firm clubs.
