Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor departing the club this summer would leave a “massive” void, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The £13,000-a-week shot-stopper has played 445 matches for the Gers across multiple different spells, but he could be set to leave for the final time.

What’s the latest news involving McGregor?

McGregor’s contract at Ibrox is up at the end of the month, and having celebrated his 40th birthday in January, it looks like the Scottish giants are unlikely to hand him a new deal.

This has not been officially confirmed by the club, and he did make 48 appearances across all competitions in 2021/22, showing that he is still a useful asset to the team.

However, he was brought on in the final minute of the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, seemingly allowing him to wave goodbye to the Rangers fans, signalling that he is almost certain to walk away from the club in the coming days.

What has Bridge said about McGregor?

Bridge feels McGregor can still make a positive contribution, and believes he will be sorely missed if he leaves.

When asked about how big a blow it would be for Rangers to lose McGregor both on and off the pitch, Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “Massive. I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet whether he is off. He could still probably do a job. What do Rangers do there?”

Who else could Rangers lose this summer?

Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo both joined on loan back in January, and they are now set to return to Juventus and Manchester United, respectively.

There are then four other players alongside McGregor who are out of contract this summer. Connor Goldson, Steven Davis, Leon Balogun and Andy Firth all have uncertain futures, as things stand.

Meanwhile, defender Calvin Bassey has been linked with a move to the Premier League. The Times has reported that Aston Villa are nearing a deal for the highly-rated 22-year-old.

It looks like Giovanni van Bronckhorst could make some significant changes to his squad over the next few months as he looks to overhaul Celtic after watching Ange Postecoglou’s side regain the Scottish Premiership title this year.

However, the Dutchman has something to build on after winning his first piece of silverware in the Scottish Cup, while also guiding Rangers to the Europa League final.
