Napoli‘s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is quickly evolving into one of the most feared footballers in Europe.

The 21-year-old sensation, who is aptly nicknamed ‘The Georgian Lionel Messi‘, has been breathtakingly good in 2022/23 so far after completing a move to Naples over the summer.

Kvaratskhelia was signed by Napoli from Dinamo Batumi for a fee of around €12 million and already looks a player worth five times that amount.

The lightning-quick winger – who’s scored eight goals in 17 appearances for the Georgian national team – was voted the Serie A Player of the Month for August thanks to his dazzling displays in sky blue.

Kvaratskhelia announced himself on a more global stage when he tore Liverpool apart in the Champions League last week and he was brilliant once again in the competition on Wednesday evening.

The former Rubin Kazan man helped Napoli achieve a 3-0 victory over Rangers away from home in their second group stage match of the campaign.

Second half goals from Matteo Politano, Giacomo Raspadori and Tanguy Ndombele secured the comprehensive win for Luciano Spalletti’s in-form side, a result which means they sit top of the group ahead of the international break.

While he didn’t get himself on the scoresheet for the fifth time in 2022/23, Kvaratskhelia was superb on the night in Glasgow and one of his dribbles has gone viral on social media.

At one point in the match, the two-time Georgian Footballer of the Year left two Rangers players trailing in his wake with an awesome display of skill and speed, before being fouled near the edge of the box.

It really was shades of a young, fearless Messi at Ibrox…

The kid is so, so special and countless defenders across the continent are going to be left humiliated by him in the years to come.

Napoli’s signing of Kvaratskhelia for such a small fee – in the grand scheme of things – will likely soon be viewed as one of the best pieces of business completed by a club in the 21st century.

With players of a similar age and profile going for upwards of £70 million in recent years, the Neapolitan club have managed to acquire a potentially generational talent for a price that’s far less than what Bournemouth paid to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool.

Madness, right? It just goes to show that in the money-driven footballing world of the modern era, there are still absolute bargains to be had.
