Celtic’s Lubo Moravcik celebrates his first goal during the Scottish Premier League match against Rangers at Ibrox

On 29 April 2001 Celtic travelled across the city to Ibrox for the final Old Firm clash of the season with the league title well and truly in the bag after romping to the league title in the first campaign under the leadership of Martin O’Neill.

The ‘Parkhead trophy room’ was filling up

With the League Cup also in the ‘Parkhead trophy room’ and a Scottish Cup Final approaching, it’s fair to say that spirts were high in the Celtic camp as the support dreamed of completing a clean sweep for the first time in 32 years.

We may have secured the title, but there was still plenty of motivation as he headed to the home of our bitter rivals. Rangers FC were a team stuffed full of players who they could only afford due to their secretive side letter and ultimately unlawful EBT scheme that was being operated by David Murray.

Celtic were unaware of that at the time as we aimed to prove we were more than worthy Champions and undoubtedly the best team in the country on what we thought was a level playing field with everyone playing by the rules, on and off the park.

Celtic hadn’t won an Old Firm match at Ibrox or eight years.

There was also the fact that we hadn’t tasted victory over our rivals in Govan for eight years, so that was another factor for us to consider amid media claims that this game was somehow ‘meaningless’.

Rangers FC were up for it too having had a nightmare campaign and were looking to salvage some pride in front of their own supporters, meaning this game was going to be anything but ‘meaningless’

Lubo Moravcik fired Celtic into the lead

After a goalless hour of a tense but uneventful game the genius that was Lubo Moravcik fired Celtic into the lead much to the delight of the packed out Free Broomloan. The little Slovakian genius grabbed his brace thirteen minutes later to double our lead and secure the win with another fine finish in front of the huge Celtic support behind the goal.

Henrik Larsson put the icing on the cake

Henrik Larsson put the icing on the cake three minutes from time with a terrific finish from a tight angle and in doing so scored his 50th goal of a superb campaign for both club and player.

It was our first win at Ibrox over Rangers FC for eight years and it fully cemented our status as the best team in the country in front of our rival supporters. What a day! what a memory! What a team! and what great players we had, shining brightest that day Lubo, our Gift from God and Henrik, our King of Kings.
