In an interview published in today’s L’Équipe, Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani discussed his move to Germany this summer from Nantes, ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Marseille.

How are you adapting to this new style of football?

It’s exactly what I wanted to do, to discover a new league, a new lifestyle, a new environment. Things are still a bit complicated in terms of the language, but I’m taking lessons twice a week and in the dressing room we can get by with English. But the supporters are like at Nantes, passionate in the stadium and really nice outside of it.

Do you feel like at Nantes in the dressing room?

I’ve become that calm, shy Randal again [smiles]. I’m focused on football, but I do try to tease a few from time to time.

Are you asked to do the same things on the pitch as at Nantes?

The main difference is that here, the work is more intensive, there are more efforts to be made than in France. They see work differently here, it’s all about the little details. It’s similar to Nantes, but bigger and more demanding. Here, when you have to meet at half past, if you’re arriving at 28 past you’re already late.

I didn’t exactly say that [laughs]. I said they did a bit more, both in training and at matches. It’s a very intensive league, with pace. In Ligue 1, there are sometimes moments where you preserve yourself, but not here. I make twice as many runs and do and more defensive work. it’s tough athletically speaking. Back at Nantes, I could walk a bit in training on exercises where you keep the ball. Not here.
