Ramon Planes has been named new technical director of Barcelona.

Planes steps up following the sacking of Eric Abidal yesterday. He had been acting as the Frenchman's assistant.

Barca announced this morning the promotion of Planes as the club's new technical director.

Planes has also acted in a similar role with the likes of Getafe, Elche and Espanyol.
