Even though Mohammed Salisu has only played 12 times for Southampton in his first season with the club, he’s impressed while he’s been on the pitch, gaining plenty of support from the Saints fanbase.
With Jan Bednarek being forced off against Crystal Palace over the weekend, Salisu could find himself earning his sixth career Premier League start against Fulham this weekend.
Ahead of the match, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl hailed Salisu’s influence and made a strong prediction that the former Real Valladolid centre-back would take over the starting role next season.
“He’s now absolutely on a good way,” Hasenhüttl said.
“The position thing is that Ramadan has now finished so these lads will now come back to a normal rhythm with sleeping at night and eating in the day.
“This will bring them back to 100% and goes for him, Ibra [Diallo] and Moussa [Djenepo].
“It’s important, I think. I was happy with his development this season so far and I always said that next season will be his, I think.”
The last time Salisu started was back on the 21st of April, when Southampton fell just short in a 2-1 defeat away at Tottenham.
