Ralf Rangnick set to bring his own coaches to Man Utd staff | OneFootball

Ralf Rangnick is edging closer towards being confirmed as Manchester United’s interim manager, with the German thought to be the club’s first-choice target for the temporary role.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are confident of finalising a deal to bring Rangnick to the club before Sunday’s game against Chelsea. Due to regulations over non-British managers coming to work in the United Kingdom, he will need to obtain a work permit before taking charge.

Thus, the 63-year-old will not be in the dugout against Thomas Tuchel’s side but he could lead his United side out for the first time against Arsenal on Thursday.

Previously, there had been suggestions that Rangnick would make the move from Russia to England on his own, but according to journalist James Ducker, he will bring a ‘small number of staff’ with him to the Old Trafford club.

Lars Kornetka was Rangnick’s assistant manager in his most recent management stint, at RB Leipzig, and the pair are currently working alongside each other at Lokomotiv Moscow. Kornetka is thought to be one of the coaches in line to join Rangnick at United.

Furthermore, Rangnick is said to already be getting involved in the day-to-day activities at the club. As per the report from Ducker, as seen above, he has been given access to the club’s training sessions in a bid to familiarise himself with the players and surroundings.

SN’s verdict on Rangnick bringing his own coaches… One of the main criticisms of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was his unwillingness to expand his coaching staff. The Norwegian stayed with the same group he embarked on the project with in 2018 and ultimately, that was one of his downfalls.

Rangnick is extremely meticulous in what he does and he’s not afraid to delegate, a quality he has improved over the years. In addition to the man himself, having additional coaches clued into what Rangnick wants would help the player exponentially.

Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna, and Mike Phelan are all expected to stay on as part of the new-look coaching staff and Rangnick would certainly be amenable to developing United’s existing coaches.

The club has invested time and capital into young coaches in recent years and that’s a department Rangnick thrives in. All in all, the appointment makes perfect sense for where United are as a club.
