Bayern had been in talks with the Austria boss for the past few weeks and had hoped to lure him back to club management as they prepare to bid farewell to Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

However, Rangnick has now confirmed that he has opted to remain in his current post for the foreseeable future.

"I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart," Rangnick said. "I really enjoy this task and am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path.

"I would like to expressly emphasise that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championships. We will do everything we can to get as far as possible!"

Rangnick becomes the third manager to reject Bayern's advances this summer.

The team then turned to Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, who went on to sign a new contract until after the 2026 World Cup.

Unai Emery, another reported target, also signed a new deal with Aston Villa, although Rangnick was always the third choice for the role at Bayern, who now find themselves scrambling to replace Tuchel before the end of the season.
