Sky Germany and Bild both report that negotiations have begun between Bayern Munich and Ralf Rangnick over the former RB Leipzig, Manchester United and Schalke boss becoming Bayern’s new manager in the summer.

Rangnick is now the clear favourite and Plan C for Bayern but a lot still needs to be discussed. Mainly the fact that Rangnick’s contract as Austria manager does not expire until 2026, so a transfer fee to the Austrian FA would need to be paid, along with the fact that Rangnick will be at the Euros with Austria for the majority of June, in a similar situation to Julian Nagelsmann.

Previously, Rangnick had had disputes with Uli Hoeneß but those have now been resolved, so there are no clear obstacles to Rangnick’s appointment, a meeting is planned for this week for Bayern to make their final decision on their new manager. Additionally, Rangnick is yet to make a final decision on his future but Bayern believe they have a good chance of appointing the 65-year-old.

Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi is still on the list at Bayern but has an outsider chance. An interim solution has also been considered.

Rangnick’s last job in club football was as interim manager of Manchester United where he made it clear the issues at the club that are still standing. While in the Bundesliga, he has managed Leipzig, Schalke, Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart.
