Manchester United’s terrible 2021-22 season came to an end on Sunday with Europa League qualification in the bag.

The Red Devils finished sixth as Ralf Rangnick took charge of his final game as interim manager, with Erik ten Hag in the stands waiting patiently to fix the problems that exist with an underachieving squad.

Rangnick arrived with expectations of stabilising a troubled dressing room, but the German failed to get his tactics across to the players over the past six months.

As a result, we are now seeing leaks from the dressing room on what sort of environment existed under Rangnick and it’s not all pretty.

According to the Manchester Evening News, a number of players took issue with Rangnick at United, with one star stooping as low as to give the manager a childish nickname. Apparently at least one player refers to him as ‘specs’ which is a clear reference to the fact he wears glasses.

It’s the sort of stuff you would hear on the playground at school and it shows how toxic the dressing room has become over the past year.

Rangnick never looked like he enjoyed his time in the dugout at Old Trafford but, at the same time, I would argue that the players never showed him the respect he needed to get results.

Hopefully Erik ten Hag can get rid of the disrespectful players currently in the squad. Otherwise, they will hold him back next season.
