The Bavarians have missed out on the Bundesliga title for the first time in 11 years and only have the Champions League to focus on if they want to win a trophy this campaign.

Bayern originally wanted Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso. However, the Spainiard confirmed he will stay at B04 for another year at least.

Other managers linked with the role are Brighton’s  Roberto De Zerbi, who is still on Bayern’s list of potential successors.

Rangnick and Bayern bosses held a secret meeting last weekend to discuss the possibility of becoming their new manager.

Discussions must have gone well, as the current Austrian head coach is now thinking about the offer.

The 65-year-old is currently contracted with the Austrian national team until 2026. Therefore, Bayern would have to pay a transfer fee if they decide to go with Rangnick.
