Ralf Fährmann played a big part in keeping out TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the first half of Saturday’s game with several strong saves. Schalke’s keeper received a lot of praise for his performance against Sebastian Hoeneß’s team and made it into a number of publications’ Team of the Week. The 32-year-old himself is simply glad to have put an end to a long series of negative results. “The three points feels amazing,” says the Royal Blues’ goalkeeper.
Speaking about the feeling in the dressing room after the game, Fährmann reports that a massive weight has come off the back of the team. “I think you could really see that after the game. We’ve missed that feeling for a long, long time,” he says. “The last few weeks and months have not been easy for us, and especially for me personally. That’s why a good win with some saves is a big positive for us.”
However, the goalkeeper does not want the team to get ahead of themselves. “We recognise the position that we are still in. It was a victory and a great one at that, but nothing more. What’s important now is to continue improving over the next few games,” emphasises Fährmann as he explains the challenges that still lie ahead for Christian Gross’ side.
Fährmann is not only overjoyed about the result against Hoffenheim, but also about the way the victory came about. “Our team spirit out there on the pitch was outstanding. We were fighting for every tackle and every duel and celebrating when we won them. We pushed each other on,” he states. “We can still achieve a lot with this mentality, passion, and teamwork.”
Fährmann is also especially pleased about the return of Sead Kolasinac. “You can see how good his return is for the team, both on and off the pitch. It’s great that Seo is back. He’s someone who isn’t afraid to take responsibility and push his teammates,” finishes the goalkeeper.
