One of the more interesting questions Raheem Sterling was asked in his introductory press conference today was about where he will play in this Chelsea team, after appearing to play up top on his debut at the weekend.

He still insisted that he’s a winger by trade – but pointed out that he’s happy to do whatever it takes to help the team, and to be effective himself.

He confirmed himself what we had all seen on the pitch on Saturday – he was playing as a “false 9.”

Given we have zero true senior strikers on the books at the moment, he may have to get used to it. It feels like Thomas Tuchel’s plan all along has been to use Sterling centrally, with midfielders like Kai Havertz and Mason Mount posted out wide as we saw on Saturday.

Sterling may not consider it his true position, but he’s not going to complain either.
