Speaking from his experiences playing alongside him for the Netherlands, Rafael van der Vaart says Jasper Cillessen is a “nasty guy.”

Whether Cillessen will start for Oranje at the World Cup is very much unclear with Ajax’s Remko Pasveer playing in the side’s last two matches.

He was asked about the situation by NOS and said he remains relaxed, and is confident that he’s the best option in the squad given his experience.

“I am the only one who has tournament experience from the current goalkeepers,” he said.

Van der Vaart wasn’t impressed by such a comment and feels, having played alongside him, the NEC player isn’t the nicest of people.

“I have experienced Jasper Cillessen with the Dutch national team myself, and to tell you the truth, he is a bit of a nasty guy,” he said on Studio Voetbal.

“I have experienced things with him, but you can also see it in his interviews. He’s a great goalkeeper, but he has a nasty side.”

Given both their performances and their attitudes, Van der Vaart thinks Pasveer is the best option for Louis van Gaal.

“At the moment, Pasveer is the one who is the best. He is trying to earn his place in the Dutch national team”, he continued.

“I think Cillessen is a very good keeper and if he is in shape he has a good chance of becoming the first keeper. But he has something bad about him, I don’t think he is a team player.”
