Race to sign Liverpool attacker begins as bid is launched

The race to sign Harry Wilson from Liverpool seems to have begun in earnest this week with an early bid being launched by Benfica, though the early talks with the Portuguese club have broken down as the Reds want €15 million for him.

Wilson shone out on loan last season for Cardiff City as he booked another fine season in the Championship, to go along with the one he had at Derby County a few years ago.

He will, though, want a permanent move sorted soon if Liverpool cannot offer him first-team action next year and it sounds as though clubs are starting to form a queue for him.

According to The Athletic, Benfica have made an official approach but have been taken aback by the asking price, though they are expected to come back with a new offer.

The report also reveals that Brentford and West Brom are keen on the player, so we’ll have to see what unfolds here.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Wilson is a good player but it seems fair to say he’s perhaps not quite at the level Liverpool need for him to really push the front three and get into the side.

We’ll have to see where he ends up, then, with several sides seemingly keen on getting him in from the Reds this summer.
