There are now two games remaining of the Championnat National (third tier) season, and the battle for promotion will most certainly go to the last game of the season. Whilst Martigues edge the top of the league by one point, the six points on offer for all of the top four could lead to some dramatic changes in the last two games of the season.

The Championnat National table with two games to go

Tonight could see the suburban Marseille-based side Martigues seal an unthinkable double promotion if they win away to bottom side Bastia Borgo and one of the chasing pack manage to slip up. Hot on Martigues’ heels are Dunkerque, who currently occupy the crucial second place on goal difference, also with 56 points. They face a challenging away fixture against US Orléans tonight, seeking to secure a vital victory that would keep them in the promotion race. Dunkerque will then travel to Le Mans on the final day, knowing that another strong performance is needed to seal a return to Ligue 2.

Meanwhile, Breton side Concarneau find themselves just outside the promotion spots, also on 56 points. They have an important home match against Bourg-en-Bresse in their penultimate fixture, where they will aim to secure three points to boost their chances of promotion. On the final day of the season, they will face a tough away match against US Orléans, a team fighting to secure their own survival in the league.

Red Star travel to Châteauroux this evening, two points behind the promotion spots. A win for Habib Beye’s side keeps Les Audoniens in the promotion race for the final day showdown at Bauer with Stade Briochin. However, they would require points to be dropped by at least one or two of the top three.
