Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has only a couple of days left in which to get fit enough to start in the Champions League final against Man City.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that it’s a race against time for the Armenian.
There is no real doubt that Mkhitaryan will be in Inter’s squad for Saturday’s final in Istanbul.
The 34-year-old has fully recovered from his thigh injury to make a return to high-intensity individual training. This has been the case for a few days.
However, Mkhitaryan is still putting the final touches on his recovery process.
He is in full training and working towards the final. However, there are now only a couple of days left.
With the team needing to rush to get in condition for the final whilst also travelling to Istanbul, questions exist around whether or not Mkhitaryan can be close to 100% for the final.
If the former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United man isn’t ready to start, Marcelo Brozovic will do so.
Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi sees Mkhitaryan as tactically key to balancing the midfield in big matches.
Accordingly, the coach would like to have the player fit against City.
However, the timeline for Mkhitaryan to be fit looks tight.
Given the projected return to full training, Mkhitaryan’s condition for the final is uncertain.
The key Nerazzurri man could be ready for the bench but unable to start against City.
This season, Mkhitaryan has made a total of 48 appearances for Inter across all competitions. In the process, he has scored five goals.
