New manager Julien Stéphan has been appointed following Martí Cifuentes’ departure from the club at the end of the last term.

The London outfit will be looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season, with the Frenchman looking to take the team into the top half of the table.

The Hoops will get their campaign underway with a home clash against Preston North End on 9 August in a 3pm kick-off.

Before then, we take a look at the latest news surrounding QPR as they prepare for that clash with Paul Heckingbottom’s side…

Charlie Kelman transfer interest

Charlie Kelman has returned to QPR following a successful loan stint with Leyton Orient in which he scored 21 times in 46 regular league appearances.

However, according to Darren Witcoop, the forward’s performances in the third tier have caught the attention of numerous clubs, including West Brom.

It remains to be seen whether the London outfit would be open to a deal, with the 23-year-old enjoying a breakout campaign after struggling for game time at Loftus Road.

Kelman was a key figure as Richie Wellens’ side reached the play-off final last season, missing out on promotion with defeat to Charlton Athletic at Wembley Stadium.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has singled out QPR as the best run club in the Championship in terms of their finances.

He highlighted their small budget compared to the competition, suggesting they’re over-performing where they should be.

"I'll go for one that I probably wouldn't have said a few years ago, and this one has given me a lot of consideration,” said Maguire, via the Second Tier podcast.

"I'm going to go for Queens Park Rangers, and the reason why I say that is on a player recruitment budget on the square-root of f*** all - that's an accounting piece of terminology - they've managed to survive.

"They've managed to get control of their wages, they did have legacy issues, their wage bill is bottom-six, the total squad cost is £2 million, and yet QPR did okay last season."

Ziyad Larkeche has officially signed a new deal with QPR, keeping him at the club long-term after he returned from his loan stint with Dundee.

The 22-year-old has outlined his ambition for the upcoming season, and made it clear that he is now looking to win his place in the Championship club’s first team squad.

"I want to keep working and keep improving,” said Larkeche, via QPR’s official website.

“I could have stayed at QPR last year but I went there [Dundee] to challenge myself and to test myself.

“For me, that was really important.

"Now I'm really excited about the season ahead - I'm really motivated.

“I want to impress in every training session and every game."

Kwame Poku has completed his move to QPR following his exit from Peterborough United at the end of last season.

The forward made the switch despite intense interest from Scottish giants Rangers, claiming that Stéphan played a key role in his decision to opt for Loftus Road instead.

“When I was speaking to [Stéphan] he was talking about where he sees me fitting in and where he thinks I can influence the game,” said Poku, via the club’s official website.

“That's what really attracted me.

“Being 23 turning 24, I'm not quite young anymore so I want to come in and make my mark from the jump.”
