QPR are among a host of clubs showing an interest in Strasbourg attacking midfielder Nordine Kandil, who could be set for a move in the summer window.

There’s a lot of optimism among the R’s faithful after the remarkable job that Marti Cifuentes has done since his appointment midway through the previous campaign.

The former Hammarby chief inherited a QPR side in the relegation zone, and dropping to League One seemed like a real possibility.

However, Cifuentes transformed the team, and they produced some big performances and results during the run-in to ensure they would be in the Championship next season.

QPR interested in Nordine Kandil

Now, attention is turning to the summer window, and Cifuentes will hope to be backed in the market as he looks to make his own mark on the side.

And, L’Equipe has claimed that the Londoners are one of several clubs who are keen on Strasbourg attacking midfielder Kandil.

The 22-year-old is contracted to the Ligue 1 outfit until the summer of 2025, but he spent last season in the second tier with Annecy.

During his loan spell, Kandil scored four goals and registered seven assists in 36 appearances, in what was a good individual campaign for the player.

Now back at Strasbourg, the update states that with Kandil entering the final 12 months of his deal, they may be open to a sale, with QPR, Clermont Foot and clubs from America and Turkey all monitoring his situation.

Nordine Kandil fits the profile QPR will want

This is the sort of deal that QPR should be looking to do, as Kandil is a young player who has plenty of room to develop, but he has just had a full season of professional football under his belt.

Plus, his contract situation means that Strasbourg are unlikely to be able to demand a significant fee, so he could be viewed as a potential bargain for the R’s.

Even though the team have been excellent under Cifuentes, it’s clear they need more reinforcements, and Kandil could add some more creativity and quality in the final third, which would be very welcome.

Doing a deal for Kandil isn’t going to be easy, but the appeal of the R’s shouldn’t be underestimated as they’re based in the capital, they have a good manager in charge, and they will be hoping to kick-on next season.

QPR’s summer transfer plans

Ultimately, the view this summer should be that the club try to back Cifuentes as much as possible.

The signings made in January made a huge difference to the team, whilst he has also shown he can develop individuals.

The success under Cifuentes was primarily down to the defensive structure and organisation, and the next step is going to be about adding more individual quality in attack, and it seems that they feel Kandil could do just that.

So, it will be interesting to see if they can finalise an agreement for Kandil, but it’s shaping up to be an exciting summer for QPR as they look forward to their first full season under Cifuentes’ leadership.
