After Thorup turned down the R's job, the club are interested in one of his fellow countrymen from Denmark

Queens Park Rangers are said to be keen on Randers head coach Rasmus Bertelsen to be their Marti Cifuentes successor, after talks for ex-Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup seemingly ended.

As reported by Danish publication Tipsbladet on Monday, Thorup has decided to reject the west London outfit after weeks of speculation, meaning they must now move on to try and find a new avenue to go down.

And it appears that the Hoops may go for a fellow countryman of Thorup's as their next port of call, if fresh claims from Denmark are to be believed.

QPR eyeing up Rasmus Bertelsen after Johannes Hoff Thorup talks end

Another outlet from Denmark in the form of Bold have reported that the Hoops are now eyeing up Randers boss Rasmus Bertelsen to become their next manager.

It is not the first time that the 41-year-old has been linked with an English club, with Wycombe Wanderers pursuing him back in January following the exit of Matt Bloomfield to Luton Town.

However, the Chairboys could not get a deal over the line, with Bertelsen turning down the English third tier outfit and opting to remain with his current club, who finished fourth in the Danish Superliga this past season, but just narrowly missed out on the UEFA Conference League.

Bertelsen has been with Randers since 2009, initially as head of academy coaching, but he has risen through the ranks with The Horses and served several positions, such as under-19's manager, chief scout for the first-team and assistant manager to both Ricardo Moniz and Thomas Thomasberg, before eventually becoming permanent manager in March 2023.

Despite a win percentage of just 33.75 per cent since taking over two years ago, with 27 wins from his 80 matches in charge, Bertelsen is clearly gaining plaudits for his work at Randers, and he confirmed to Bold in their report that there is interest from other clubs in his services.

With three years remaining on his contract though, it will take a decent amount of compensation for the R's to get a deal done, should Bertelsen be their first-choice.

QPR going for Rasmus Bertelsen would be somewhat of a big risk for hierarchy

Whilst there is no denying the great work that Bertelsen has done with Randers this past season, a move for his services would come with significant questions for QPR over whether or not he could adapt to the Championship.

Bertelsen has been a one-club man throughout his off-field career so far, which has spanned 16 years already, so it could be a case that he just fits Randers to a tee and he may not have the same impact anywhere else.

Of course though, given Wycombe's past interest, the R's aren't the only club to be intrigued by Bertelsen and what he's done in his native country, but there are surely far more safer options for QPR to look at.

They went outside the box in the first place though with Marti Cifuentes in 2023 when bringing him in from Hammarby, so the west Londoners aren't averse to plumping for somewhat of the unknown - that would continue a popular trend here.
