Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup | Netherlands vs Argentina

Article image:Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup | Netherlands vs Argentina

Revenge is on the cards as Netherlands face Argentina for the first time since Oranje were knocked out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals on penalties. The last two meetings have been on the biggest international stage with both matches finishing 0-0.

Since they last met, the Dutch national side replaced Louis van Gaal, failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, brought Van Gaal back and now go into Qatar with the ambition of becoming world champions. So far, the Dutch head coach has defended his side in the group stages with some below-par performances before warning they must do better after their convincing 3-1 win against USA in the round of 16.

Team News

Van Gaal is not expected to make changes nor is there much to report in terms of the injuries either. Jeremie Frimpong suffered an ankle injury ahead of the USA match while Stefan de Vrij suffered some discomfort at the weekend but neither are expected to feature in the starting eleven.

For Argentina, Papu Gomez and Angel Di Maria are the two main concerns for Scaloni’s side with the Sevilla attacker recovering from a sprained ankle he suffered against Australia while Juventus’ winger is expected to be fully fit following a leg muscle problem.
