Who says the Europa Conference League wasn’t full of drama?
34 minutes into the second leg of Qarabag’s playoff round second leg clash with Marseille, home striker Ibrahima Wadji appeared to score for his team … by punching the ball into the back of the net.
The referee originally didn’t seem to spot the incident and the goal was awarded, and we know what you’re thinking – where is VAR in all this?
Well the technology is not currently present in the competition so for a few minutes it looked as if Wadji had got away with it and dragged his team back into the tie (Qarabag were 4-1 down on aggregate at the time).
That’s until his manager Gurban Gurbanov told the player to tell the referee what he had done according to reports.
The goal was eventually chalked off and justice prevailed.
