Carlton Palmer believes Leeds United are right to stick by Daniel Farke for the time being.

It was reported by Football Insider earlier this week that the Whites’ board have decided to avoid any drastic decisions over his future after an underwhelming start to the new campaign.

The German has been in charge at Elland Road since the summer of 2023, and guided the club to a third place finish in the Championship last year.

A play-off final loss to Southampton consigned the club to another campaign in the second tier, with automatic promotion being their immediate aim.

But just two wins from their opening five games has seen the pressure mounting on Farke, with the Leeds board ready to stick with the coach for now.

Palmer believes that patience is needed at Leeds, as he expects Farke to lead the team to another 90-point haul this year.

However, he has claimed that a second failure to secure promotion at the end of the campaign could raise real question marks over his position at Elland Road.

“Apparently Leeds United’s hierarchy have moved to distance themselves from any talk about the sacking of Daniel Farke,” Palmer told Football League World.

“I mentioned this before, I know it’s come out that [Carlos Corberan’s] got a £2 million release clause and it’s believed that Leeds were firm admirers of Carlos Corberan.

“But, it’s important for the football club, it’s the right decision [to stick with Farke].

“Daniel Farke posted 90 points last season, which would have been good enough in any other season in any other time to see Leeds United promoted back to the Premier League.

“Obviously they fell short in the play-offs, and didn’t get promoted, but they had a lot to contend with last season, they’ve had a lot to contend with this season.

“Losing players that they’ve lost in [Archie] Gray, [Crysencio] Summerville, so it’s a right decision.

“Patience is needed, I think he’ll post 90 points again, and I think Leeds will be there or thereabouts.

“What’s important is that Daniel Farke does get Leeds promoted this season because if they don’t they’ll be looking and saying he’s had the tools to do the job.

“It has been a bit tricky in terms of players leaving the club, especially when he came in late last season.

“But now they’ll be looking to kick on and get promotion this season, but definitely the right decision at this moment in time to keep Daniel Farke.”

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United record

Farke oversaw a third place finish in his first year in charge at Leeds, with the team earning an impressive 90 points.

The Whites have won 33 of his 61 games in charge, losing only 14, and will fancy their chances of a top two finish this year.

However, it has been an underwhelming start to the campaign, with just eight points from a possible 15, with the side sitting ninth in the table.

Next up for Leeds is a clash away to Cardiff city on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Farke dismissal at this stage would be harsh

It has only been five games of the new season, so making a decision this drastic now would be quite rash.

Given they stuck with him through the play-off final loss, he deserves the time to get this team firing on all cylinders again.

The 47-year-old also has an impressive track record at this level, having twice previously gaining promotion with Norwich City.
