Former Hibs man Sol Bamba believes that Blackburn Rovers would be a good fit for Ryan Porteous.

The Scottish international has been hugely impressive for the capital city side over the years but with his contract expiring in the summer, and Porteous having no desire to sign an extension, his time at Easter Road is coming to an end.

A host of clubs have been linked with the 23-year-old, including Udinese, but Rovers are also known to be real admirers of the defender and they’re thought to have tabled a bid, which was rejected.

And, speaking on Sky Sports, as quoted by the Daily Record, Bamba explained why a move to Ewood Park could be a good next step for Porteous in his career.

I think it would be a good move for him. Obviously Hibs fans won’t be happy to lose him but I guess he wants to come down to England and test himself. Blackburn would be a good club for him. Their captain got injured in the last game which is probably why their interest is a bit more now.

He’ll be a big miss when he eventually leaves the club. BUt it would be a big move and good move for him to go to Blackburn.”

The verdict

The Blackburn fans will be hoping that Porteous follows Bamba’s advice because he would be an excellent addition to Jon Dahl Tomasson’s squad.

Obviously, it would be a new league and opportunity for the player and it’s something that will no doubt be tempting him as he weighs up his next move.

However, there is plenty of interest in Porteous so it appears the defender is going to have a big decision to make in the coming weeks.
