Motherwell should appoint Celtic legend Neil Lennon as their new manager, according to pundit Stephen Craigan. The former Fir Park defender has said that the Irishman who has won ten Scottish Premiership titles as both a player and as a manager would be top of his list but questions whether The Steelmen would be able to entice Lennon back from Cyprus.

Speaking to Go Radio, Craigan said that he reckoned his former employers should move for the Irishman.

“That would be a big coup for Motherwell to get Neil Lennon. When it was first mentioned I thought no chance. However, if there is something contriving towards him getting it I think Motherwell fans would certainly take that.

“I would imagine if Motherwell thought they had an opportunity to get Neil Lennon they would push the boat out for him. I’ve no doubt that they would push the boat out for him.

“We don’t know anything, it’s just the names come up in the conversation. But if you’re asking the question ‘would Neil Lennon be a good appointment for Motherwell?’ Absolutely.”

Craigan’s assessment is correct, Lennon would be a coup for Motherwell. His record speaks for itself regarding the success that he’s enjoyed in Scotland. The real issue is whether he would be convinced to go to Fir Park.

Lennon led his new side Omonia Nicosia to the Cyprus Cup at the end of last season and has added some familiar faces to his new team – namely Adam Matthews. It would be extremely unlikely if he were to return to Glasgow, especially given the unwanted attention he gets from fans across the city.

Another former Celtic captain, Paul Lambert, has been linked with the job. Lambert possesses an impressive CV as a player and a manager. However, the links for the job have been few and far between in recent days.
