According to analyst Kenneth Perez, Feyenoord would do well to build a new stadium quickly. Commenting after watching a rainy Feyenoord-Heerenveen clash (3-0), the ESPN pundit pointed out just how exposed to the elements fans in ‘the tub’ are.
Asking fellow TV guest Karim El Ahmadi what it was like to play there, the former Moroccan international responded: “I don’t think it would be fun if you were sitting there and getting soaked. You see the water running off the roof. Is that charming? It’s just not in this day and age? That as a top club, as one of the most important clubs in the Netherlands… You can’t keep coming up with these kinds of things, can you? I think a lot of Feyenoord fans like it.”
About the somewhat leaky 47,500-capacity stadium that opened in 1937, Perez retorted: “I can’t imagine that this is financially profitable in terms of sponsors.”
“The plans for a new stadium are on hold, right? I would at least find a company that is ‘Feyenoord crazy’ to fix all those leaks.”
Presenter Milan van Dongen agreed: “That’s true. It would be better financially to build a new stadium.
“They have a roof and it leaks every now and then. That’s charming, but also unworthy of a top club. It can be both.”
